What looked like a straightforward day on paper turned into a far more demanding and tactical stage at La Vuelta España Femenina.
Stage 2 covered 109.8 kilometres from Lobios to San Cibrao das Viñas, raced at a consistently high pace from start to finish. After the breakaway of the day was brought back under control, UAE Team ADQ remained attentive and well positioned, with the team riding compactly near the front of the peloton throughout the stage.
The bunch also neutralised a late solo move from Katrine Aalerud (Uno-X Mobility) in the closing kilometres, setting up an intense finale. The decisive moment came on the final uphill drag, which further reduced the lead group before the fast descent into the finish and the final sprint.
Victory went to Shari Bossuyt (AG Insurance – Soudal Team), who outsprinted Franziska Koch (FDJ-SUEZ), with the German rider moving into the overall lead and taking over the red jersey.
For UAE Team ADQ, Maeva Squiban successfully defended the Queen of the Mountains jersey for a second consecutive day. The French rider, together with Spain’s Paula Blasi, also remains inside the top 10 of the general classification after another solid team performance.
Megan Jastrab was involved in a crash during the stage but was able to finish the race. She will undergo further medical examinations in the coming hours to better assess her condition.
Tomorrow, the race continues with Stage 3: 121.2 kilometres from Padrón to A Coruña.
