After a solid team performance on the opening day of the race, UAE Team ADQ started the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas with a sixth place finish by Megan Jastrab in the bunch sprint concluding the 127-kilometre stage from Burgos to Burgos (Gamonal).
Following the neutralization of the day’s breakaway, the sprinters’ teams took control of the peloton in preparation for the expected fast finish. UAE Team ADQ also played an active role in the chase, with Maeva Squiban spending several kilometres on the front setting the pace for the bunch.
During the stage, Dominika Włodarczyk and Alena Ivanchenko contested the intermediate sprint in search of valuable bonus seconds, while in the final kilometres young Italian talent Federica Venturelli delivered an excellent lead-out effort to position Jastrab in the best possible way for the sprint.
The stage victory went convincingly to Lorena Wiebes of Team SD Worx – Protime, who also claimed the first leader’s jersey of the Spanish race. Jastrab crossed the line in sixth place after a competitive sprint finish.
Tomorrow, the peloton will face Stage 2 from Castrojeriz to Bodega Viña Pedrosa, Pedrosa de Duero, covering 122 kilometres.
