Irish champion Lara Gillespie secured a top-five finish on the second stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women, covering 110.5 kilometres from Clitheroe to Blackpool.
After the final breakaway rider was caught with around five kilometres to go, the teams of the leading sprinters moved to the front. For UAE Team L’IMAD, Eleonora Gasparrini took on the final lead-out duties for Lara Gillespie, who sprinted to fifth place in a stage won once again by Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx – Protime).
In the overall classification, still led by Wiebes, Karlijn Swinkels dropped to fourth place, 15 seconds behind the race leader.
The third stage is scheduled for tomorrow, covering 104.7 kilometres from Mold to The Great Orme.
