UAE Team ADQ got off to a strong start at the UAE Tour Women, claiming an immediate podium finish on the opening day of the race. In the high-speed sprint that decided the first stage, a 111 km route from Al Mirfa to Madinat Zayed, Irish rider Lara Gillespie secured an excellent second place, beaten only by stage winner Lorena Wiebes.
The stage was marked by a great team effort throughout the day, especially in the final kilometres. UAE Team ADQ delivered a perfectly executed lead-out, with all the riders fully committed to the team objective and working together to put Gillespie in the best possible position for the final sprint.
A very positive result that rewards the work of the entire squad and provides great confidence heading into the next stages of the race.
After the finish, Lara Gillespie said: “We did a great job today. Everything was perfect: we started our effort at the right moment and worked together as a group with excellent communication. We gave it everything and achieved a really good result. We’ll definitely try again tomorrow for something more.”
The UAE Tour Women continues tomorrow with Stage 2, from Dubai Police Academy to Hamdan Bin Mohamed Smart University, covering a distance of 145 km.
