Lara Gillespie Takes Second in the Final Stage of the Tour of Britain Women

Irish champion Lara Gillespie claimed second place in the fifth and final stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women, held today over 123.8 kilometres from and back to Royal Leamington Spa.

Dutch rider Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx – Protime) once again dominated the sprint, taking her fourth victory in five stages and confirming her exceptional superiority throughout the race. Gillespie produced an excellent late surge, fighting her way back in the final metres and overtaking Chiara Consonni (CANYON//SRAM) with a powerful final kick to secure second place.

Lara Gillespie’s podium finish rewards the hard work and consistency shown by UAE Team L’IMAD throughout the day and across all five stages of the Tour of Britain Women. The team was consistently represented among the top 10, with Lara Gillespie, Karlijn Swinkels and Eleonora Gasparrini all delivering strong results during the race.

Elynor Bäckstedt, Erica Magnaldi and Febe Jooris also played an important role, working tirelessly for their teammates and contributing to the team’s strong overall performance.

Karlijn Swinkels’ consistency was ultimately rewarded with an impressive sixth place in the final General Classification. The Dutch rider finished seventh in the opening stage, eighth in the third stage and sixth in the fourth stage, confirming her as one of the race’s consistent front-runners throughout the five days of competition.
