Vuelta a Burgos Stage 2: Alena Ivanchenko claims white jersey

UAE Team ADQ once again played an active role in the bunch sprint on Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas, as Lorena Wiebes of Team SD Worx – Protime powered to another dominant victory.

The 122-kilometre stage from Castrojeriz to Bodega Viña Pedrosa, Pedrosa de Duero, followed a similar script to the opening day, with a three-rider breakaway controlling the race for much of the afternoon before being reeled in by the peloton with around 23 kilometres remaining.

In the closing kilometres, the sprinters’ teams moved to the front to prepare for the fast finish, and UAE Team ADQ was once again among the most active squads controlling the pace at the head of the bunch. A late crash split the peloton shortly before the sprint, but it did not affect the chances of the main favourites or the UAE Team ADQ riders.

At the finish line, Megan Jastrab finished just outside the top 10 after another solid sprint performance.

Tomorrow the race heads into the first mountain stage, where the general classification contenders are expected to come to the fore. In the overall standings, Dominika Włodarczyk sits fifth, while Alena Ivanchenko is sixth overall and, at the end of the stage, stepped onto the podium to wear the white jersey as best young rider of the Spanish race.
