After winning the time trial title three days ago, today Brodie Chapman also graced the road race at the Australian National Championships in Perth, race over a distance of 109.6 kilometres.
It was a crazy, out-of-control race, with the breakaway surprising the peloton and arriving at the finish line. The surprise winner was 20-year-old Lucinda Stewart of Liv AlUla Jayco Women’s Continental Team. Twenty-second place for Brodie Chapman.
Bordie Chapman said: “It was difficult because the initial breakaway came at the end. Jayco only had one rider so it was up to the other teams, like Trek, to chase, but they didn’t. I tried to animate the race afterwards, but the breakaway was so far away and Jayco marked my every move. It’s good news for next year and it’s nice to see a young surprise rider win”.
Now it is time to leave his home and return to Europe to prepare for the next important races of the season with UAE Team ADQ.
