The Belgian Classics season officially kicked off today with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, delivering an intense and unpredictable race. Despite the peloton’s efforts, the breakaway managed to surprise the bunch, reshuffling the expected dynamics of the race. Eleonora Gasparrini put in a strong performance, securing a solid 6th place, bringing UAE Team ADQ into the top 10.
The race covered 137.9 km, starting from Ghent and finishing in Ninove, featuring the iconic Flemish cobbles and punchy climbs that define the early-season classics. The riders tackled key sectors such as the Molenberg, the Berendries, and the Muur-Kapelmuur, crucial points where attacks often shape the final outcome.
Despite a high-paced chase from the peloton in the finale, the early breakaway managed to stay away, forcing the favorites to battle for the remaining top positions. Gasparrini showed great determination, positioning herself well in the final sprint with the help of Alena Amialiusik and Silvia Persico to claim an important result for the team in this demanding one-day race.
With the first classic in the books, the focus now shifts to the upcoming challenges on the Belgian roads. UAE Team ADQ will continue its campaign in the cobbled classics, aiming for even stronger performances in the coming days and weeks.
