Irish cyclist Lara Gillespie narrowly missed out on another medal at the UEC Track European Championships currently underway at the Velodrome Sport Vlaanderen in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. After securing gold in the Elimination race, she finished fourth in the Omnium today, just one point behind Denmark’s Amalie Dideriksen, who took third place. The podium was completed by Britain’s Maddie Leech in second, with gold going to the Netherlands’ Lorena Wiebes.
Gillespie will continue her participation tomorrow in the points race and on Sunday in the Madison, partnering with teammate Mia Griffin.
The event, taking place from February 12 to 16, 2025, features 326 athletes from 26 nations, competing for 22 European titles.
For enthusiasts, the races are broadcast live on Eurosport channels and streamed live on Discovery+.
