Lara Gillespie Sprints to 6th at Gent-Wevelgem

Lara Gillespie secured a 6th place finish in the sprint at Gent-Wevelgem, wrapping up a race that once again proved to be unpredictable. Elisa Longo Borghini also delivered a strong performance, battling with the best riders in the key moments of the race – an important test ahead of the upcoming challenges.

The race covered 168.9 kilometers from Ypres to Wevelgem. It was a sunny but windy day, marked by numerous crashes. One of them involved Italian champion Elisa Longo Borghini, who fortunately escaped without consequences and quickly rejoined the peloton.

On the second ascent of the Kemmelberg, a strong group formed at the front, including Elisa Longo Borghini, along with top riders such as world champion Lotte Kopecky and European champion Lorena Wiebes.

However, the move was eventually neutralized, and the race came back together with around 15 kilometers to go.

The sprint was won by Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx – Protime) ahead of Elisa Balsamo (Lidl – Trek) and Charlotte Kool (Team Picnic PostNL).
