It was a photo-finish drama at the Omloop van het Hageland, where Lara Gillespie secured an impressive second place, narrowly edged out by Femke Gerritse (SD Worx – Protime). A strong and determined performance from the Irish rider, who showcased resilience and power on the challenging cobbled sections of the Belgian classic.
The race covered 135.6 km, featuring a final circuit to be repeated four times, with an intense pace and constant attacks. UAE Team ADQ managed the race expertly, staying in control and responding well to key moves.
When a decisive breakaway of around twenty riders formed, Lara Gillespie positioned herself perfectly in the leading group, demonstrating sharp race instincts and excellent form. In the final sprint, slightly uphill, she fought hard all the way to the line, missing out on victory by the smallest of margins.
After the race, Lara Gillespie shared her thoughts:“It was a really positive day. My team did an incredible job throughout the race, and I’m so grateful for the support from my teammates. In the sprint, I was feeling great, but I made a small mistake and just missed out on the win. Of course, there’s a bit of disappointment, but it’s still a strong result, and I’m happy to feel better and better with every race.”
