Safiya Alsayegh, a talented 23-year-old Emirati cyclist from UAE Team ADQ, achieved a historic milestone for UAE cycling today. In the individual time trial at the Road Cycling Asian Championships, held in Bueng Si Fai, Thailand, over a 32.1 km course, Safiya secured an impressive silver medal.
She completed the race in 43 minutes and 50 seconds, averaging 43.939 km/h, finishing one minute behind the winner, Uzbekistan’s Yanina Kuskova. The bronze medal was claimed by Japan’s Tsuyaka Uchino.
This achievement marks the first time in history that an Emirati female cyclist has won a medal at the Asian Championships. After completing her university studies in design, Safiya has fully committed to cycling. She participated in two initial training camps in Spain with her UAE Team ADQ teammates and made her season debut in Europe at Mallorca.
On Saturday, February 15, Safiya will compete again in the road race event of the Asian Cycling Championships.
