The curtain came down today in Glasgow on a successful Tour of Britain Women for UAE Team ADQ. Dutch rider Karlijn Swinkels secured a strong third place in the General Classification, finishing behind race winner Ally Wollaston (FDJ-Suez) and Cat Ferguson (Movistar Team).
Polish national champion Dominika Włodarczyk also delivered an excellent performance, claiming the blue Queen of the Mountains jersey. In a touching gesture of sportsmanship, Dominika dedicated her win to Mara Roldan (Team Picnic PostNL), who had held the jersey before a crash forced her to abandon the race in Stage 3.
“The jersey was hers, and I was really sorry to see her crash out. I may be wearing it now, but I want to share it with her- she truly deserved it,” said Włodarczyk.
The fourth and final stage, a fast and technical 82.2 km loop starting and finishing in Glasgow, ended in a bunch sprint, with Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx – Protime) taking the stage win. Swinkels successfully defended her podium spot thanks to her consistent performance throughout the race and the support of a solid team effort from UAE Team ADQ.
