Sara Fiorin legitimizes her Olympic track convocation with a 3rd place at the Baloise Ladies Tour

July 19, 2024

Extraordinary performance by Sara Fiorin who once again confirms that she is one of the fastest growing sprinters on the world cycling scene. In fact, the Italian girl of the UAE Development Team took an excellent third place in the second stage of the Baloise Ladies Tour.
This result of Sara Fiorin is surely to be remembered as the best ever result of this athlete, because, although in the past Sara had been able to win a few races, today's third place is worth as a victory for at least two reasons.
First, because at the Baloise Ladies Tour there are the best sprinters in the world, and then because Sara was very calm in facing this challenge with the calmness that is proper to the most confident riders used to competing at the highest level.

Moreover, Sara Fiorin's good season confirms the excellent work done by d.s. Davide Gani and Giuseppe Lanzoni who were present at the Baloise Ladies Tour. This is undoubtedly a magical moment for Sara, because a few days ago this athlete was selected by the Italian national team to participate in the Paris Olympics on the track.

The way the UAE Development Team competed was very good. At the start were Elisabeth Ebras, Beatrice Caudera, Karolina Kumiega (UAE Team ADQ) and Anastasia Carbonari (UAE Team ADQ). The race ended in a sprint after a breakaway attempt by Haugset and Kulynych who were caught with a few km to go.

With 3 km to go, all teams worked hard to help their sprinters. UAE Development Team also came to the fore. In specific, Latvian Anastasia Carbonari was formidable in piloting Sara Fiorin when there were 2 km to go. But the credit for the sprint was all Sara's legs. Unexpectedly, the favorite Lorena Wiebes loses control of the bike (and also some positions), and in the sprint Sara Fiorin shows great strength, maintains her positions and finishes behind the winner Charlotte Kool and Daria Pikulik who finished second.

Sara Fiorin had also shown yesterday that she was in good shape. In fact in the first stage in which UAE Development Team took 11th place with Karolina Kumiega, Sara had tried to go in the breakaway. An attempt that also showed good strategic qualities and courage.

For Sara, this third place is the crowning achievement of a very positive 2024: in fact, the sprinter won two races (Umag Trophy and ZLM Omloop der Kempen Ladies), took the podium twice more (Baloise Ladies Tour and GP Mazda Schelkens), and took two more fifth places at GP Eco Struct and the Veenendaal - Veenendaal Classic.
