She went on the attack with a small group of other riders before the first climb. When the action was cancelled by the top group, the Dutchwoman tried again with 19 km to go in Valdesquí with a solo attack.

She had to give up her jersey to Vuelta Queen Demi Vollering, but finished with honour together with the whole team. 

A short and demanding stage of 89.5 km, which started from Distrito Telefónica in Madrid and ended at the ski resort of Valdesquí after 89.5 km.

The stage and the final classification were won by Demi Vollering (SD Worx). Erica Magnaldi finished the stage in 20th place and entered the GC top 15.
