Safiya Alsayegh brings another medal to UAE Team ADQ. The UAE rider today claimed a bronze medal in the individual time trial (ITT) Women’s Under-23 at the Asian Cycling Championships.
After the two national road and time trial titles won in recent weeks, Safiya adds another medal to her and her team's palmares. Remember that Safiya Alsayegh, 20, is the first professional cyclist from the UAE and Arab to enter in the World Tour level. The challenge took place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, over a course of 24 kilometres. Safiya Alsayegh averaged 38.866 km/h, 2:55 behind Uzbekistan's Yanina Kuskova who dominated the race and won the gold medal with 34:08. Silver medal for Kazakhstan's Bota Batyrbekova. Safiya Alsayegh said: “I’m very happy to have been able to reach the podium today at the Asian Championships here in Tajikistan. The route was quite hard with elevated roads and one quite tough climb, but I’m very happy with what I put out on the road today, and for that to have given me the chance to stand on the podium is unbelievable to me. Tears of happiness filled my eyes upon hearing the result of bronze medal that ticked off one more goal of the season after the Arab and UAE ITT titles. I am now motivated for the road race in two days and for my season soon in Europe, and to come back to perform better next year”. On Tuesday, 29th March, Safiya Alsayegh will be back in the saddle for the road race of the Asian Cycling Championships, which will be contested over a distance of 111 km.
