Silvia Persico Silver Medal at the Gravel European Championship

October 13, 2024

Silvia Persico concluded her 2024 season with a remarkable silver medal at the European Gravel Championship.

Silvia Persico concluded her 2024 season with a remarkable silver medal at the European Gravel Championship, held today in Asiago, Italy. The Italian rider delivered an impressive performance, capping off her year with a podium finish.

Following her podium result last Tuesday at the Tre Valli Varesine Women's Race, the final road race of the year with UAE Team ADQ, Persico returned to the Italian National Team jersey, determined to finish the season on a high note.

The gold medal was claimed by Switzerland’s Sina Frei, who broke away on a climb during the second lap, leaving the rest of the field behind. Persico, along with compatriot Alice Maria Arzuffi, chased hard to close the gap, ultimately securing the remaining podium positions.

The battle for second place ended with an uncontested sprint, where Persico, adding to her bronze from last year's Gravel World Championship, secured a valuable silver medal. The result confirms her status as a versatile athlete with significant international pedigree.

After the race, Silvia Persico commented: "Today was tough, but I really enjoyed it. It was a great race and a nice way to wrap up the season."

Recalling the key moments of the race, she added: "Sina Frei attacked around the 67 km mark on a climb, and I was left with Arzuffi and Borghesi. Then, by the 75 km point, it was just Alice and me. In the end, I managed to win the sprint for second place. Now it's time for some rest, to recharge both physically and mentally, before starting to plan the new season with the team."
